Hauppauge Colossus

Post by Paranormalbear on Sat Dec 31, 2011 2:03 am

This thread is to be used as a resource for installing and using Hauppauge Colossus [internal card].

To start, this is my capture card: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_colossus.html

Here is a professional review on it:

Installation Options

PDF: Installation booklet http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/manuals/qi-colossus.pdf

1. Through HDMI, you will need 1 HDMI Splitter - 1 male (360/ps3) and 2 females (monitor and capture card). Below is how to set it up:

2. Through Component, there are three ways to fully do this.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First Method: Component RLPrPbY

a. Get Component 360/ps3 cable and connect to Component-IN RCA adapter (that comes with the capture card).
b. Connect the Component-IN RCA adapter to the capture card A/V Pass-through slot next to the HDMI (far right).
c. Use long 6 - 9 FT Component RCA extension cord that comes with the card, and plug it in your HDTV A/V IN and to your Component-OUT RCA adapter.
d. Connect the Component-OUT RCA adapter to the capture card A/V Pass-through far left slot right next to the optical slots.
e. Connect your Graphics card to your capture card by HDMI or through using a DVI to HDMI connector.
f. Use Arc Soft and select capture after making sure all drivers are updated, and capture!
g. Never update Arc Soft if you plan to use it (update crops videos to less than 5 minutes)

** This method was successfully attempted by using my xbox 360 component cable. You may have to do the following for Component A/V-IN to correctly work when plugged to the adapter:
Gr__Gg__Gb__Gy__ W______R
R____G__B____Br__Bw____Not used

** Some HDTV (like Samsung) will have their TV A/V IN look differently. For this method, you have to make sure you plug in the 6-9 FT component connecting to the TV matches below:

R__Audio__L __|__Red____Blue____Video/Green
Red____White__|__Pr_____Pb__________Y

** Extra notes include HDMI, optical in/out and IR blaster not used.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second Method: HDMI + RCA Splitter [Long Video Pass-through]
a.
[HDTV] <----HDMI OUT-----> [Xbox 360]
[HDTV] <----HDMI IN -------> [PC] <----HDMI or DVI to HDMI -----> [Colossus]

* @ This point, you are able to capture PC desktop / monitor without being able to capture game console if your HDTV only has HDMI-IN slots and no output.

b. [alternative] You will need 5 Male RCA splitters with 2 females PER male RCA splitter.

A/V IN example

R__Audio__L __|__Red____Blue____Video/Green
Red____White__|__Pr_____Pb__________Y

1_male_1_male_|__1_male_1_male__1_male
F-F____F-F_______F-F______F-F______F-F

V_______V_________V______V_______V
c. One of each female RCA node will connect to the Component-IN capture card A/V adapter.
d. The other remaining females will connect to the Component-OUT A/V adapter directed behind the XBOX 360.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Third Method: HDMI 3-output Switch

a. Display (out): Samsung HDTV LED ( source HDMI-2)

to 3-HDMI Inputs:
1. XBOX 360
2. DVI to HDMI (NVIDIA Graphics Card)  / or by HDMI if your Graphics card does include a HDMI slot.
3. Colossus PCIe

** This method does not currently work because Samsung HDTV's do not have an output. However IT can work if your HDTV has an output HDMI slot to it.
